Dish: Kamal Kakdi Masala (Spicy Lotus Stem Curry)

Ingredients:

  • 500g lotus stem (peeled and sliced into thin rounds)

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 1 onion (finely chopped)

  • 2 tomatoes (pureed)

  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp red chili powder

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • 1/2 tsp garam masala

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander (chopped, for garnish)

Method:

  • Boil: Wash and peel lotus stem. Slice into thin rounds. Pressure cook with a pinch of salt for 1–2 whistles until just tender. Drain and set aside.

  • Sauté Base: Heat oil in a pan. Add onions and sauté until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute.

  • Spices & Tomatoes: Add turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well. Add tomato puree and cook until oil separates.

  • Add Lotus Stem: Add the boiled lotus stem slices to the masala. Mix and simmer for 8–10 minutes.

  • Finish: Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with chopped coriander.


Serve hot with roti, paratha, or steamed rice for a hearty and flavorful meal.
