Kumol means soft in Assamese, and the rice is known for its soft texture and delicate flavour. In Assam, kumol saul is a popular choice for jolpan, the traditional breakfast and snack. The rice is soaked in water until the grains turn soft and is then eaten with curd, milk, jaggery, sugar or bananas. It is also served to guests and enjoyed during Bihu.
